Children's Foundation of Suffolk Hosts 10th Annual Pig Roast
- Over $75K raised for severely ill children and their families -

Vincent Drankwalter's Family - September, 2006 recieved $10,000 Donation towards medical expenses.
Vincent Drankwalter was diagnosed with Leukemia in 2003 at the age of three. He spent more than half his life in chemotherapy, and endured both bone marrow and stem cell transplants before losing his battle with the disease in 2006. His family, friends and medical staff remember him as a "little old man" who made everyone around him laugh and inspired them all with his sense of humor and courageous spirit.
Brielle McIntyre is just 28 months old and she has spent the majority of her short life as an in-patient at Schneider Children’s Hospital at the Long Island Jewish Medical Center. Brielle suffers from "Leigh’s Syndrome," a form of Cytochrome C Oxidase Deficiency Myopathy, an incurable disease characterized by the progressive degeneration of the brain and dysfunction of the heart, kidneys and other vital organs. Brielle has spent the last two months in ICU, and has lost the ability to walk or stand. She now requires a respirator and feeding tube as she is no longer able to breathe or swallow on her own. The intensive round the clock nursing and monitoring Brielle requires makes it prohibitively expensive for her to spend her remaining days at home, as this cost is not covered by health insurance.

Kathy and Lou Liguori own and operate Tutor Time Childcare Learning Centers of Middle Island and Medford. They have been advocates for the Children’s Foundation of Suffolk for many years. After attending the Second Annual Pig Roast, they were "hooked" and have hosted and sponsored annual community wide events such as "Safety Fairs, Spring Festivals and Autumn Harvests" as fundraisers for the past four years.
As part of the "Character Education" curriculum in their schools they created a "Kids Helping Kids" program. The children and teaching staff created a "Giving Tree" as part of their Autumn Harvest and Safe Trick or Treat programs. Donors could purchase "leaves" for the Giving Tree, and each leaf gave the donor a chance at a grand prize (bicycle, TV, etc.). All proceeds from ticket sales were donated to the Children’s Foundation of Suffolk. So far, the children have raised over $11,000. "Not only have we raised money for the foundation, but we have raised a level of awareness in our communities, the awareness of appreciation, the awareness of giving and most importantly, who the Children’s Foundation of Suffolk is and what their mission is," Kathy Ligouri said. It doesn’t get any better than that.
The Children’s Foundation of Suffolk, Inc. was formed in 1997 and incorporated as a non-for-profit organization in March of 2003 to raise funds for children with medical conditions who are in need of financial assistance. Donations are raised throughout the year to assist these children and their families with expenses that they otherwise could not afford or which for some reason are not covered by their insurance.
The Children’s Foundation had its first annual "Toys for our Tots" drive to help the families of our children who might not have funds for toys.

The Children’s Foundation of Suffolk was assisted with the toy drive by the Learning Experience of Stony Brook, Edith L. Slocum Elementary of Ronkonkoma and Sonoma Grill restaurant of Holbrook.

Thanks to everyone’s efforts we were able to help 20 of the foundation’s children, and will be providing Stony Brook University Hosptal Children’s Floor with toys.

"The entire Children’s Foundation staff is comprised of volunteers who donate their time and money to help serve the needs of these families," noted Cindy Baker, one of the foundation’s volunteers.

In Loving Memory...
